Track teams compete in RVC meet

The West Liberty High School girls’ track teams took to the track at Monticello High school for the River Valley Conference meet to kick off post season competition for coach Michael Hart.

The Comets grabbed three conference podium finishes, in the shuttle hurdle relay capturing second, and Macy Daufeldt captured second place in the 100 meter hurdles. She also finished in a tie for first place in the long jump.

Pearson Hall, a freshman, finished in 13th place in the 100-meter dash while Ava Morrison was 14th in the 800 meter run. Sammanthea Goodale finished 10th in the 400 meter hurdles while Sophie Buysse managed 12th in the high jump.

Sailor Hall was two places higher than teammates Grace Evans and Amerie Alvarado in the shot put as they finished in the 14th position. Evans also grabbed an eighth place honor in the discus competition with Alvarado finishing 10th.

The Comets grabbed seventh in the 4x100 meter relay and finished ninth in the 4x200, 10th in the 800 medley relay, and fifth in the 1600 medley.

West Liberty goes to Monticello this Thursday, May 12, for the Class 2A girls track and field meet beginning at 4 p.m. Participating in the meet will be Anamosa, Camanche, Durant, Northeast, Tipton, Beckman Catholic, Cascade, Monticello, Iowa City Regina and West Branch.
